Vintage Design
Practical and multifunctional Italian furniture; cleverly crafted with hollow walnut panels on the inside to make it aesthetically massive yet comfortably light and easy to move; the central part is slightly protruding and consists of a door equipped with a lock and enriched with an elegant frame; the other two doors are set back and flush with the surface of the furniture; the functional interior space, very large and regulated by practical shelves, is made of polished light pine wood that creates a pleasant and bright contrast with the rest of the furniture; Above the doors, there is a comfortable space that occupies the entire length of the cabinet and can be used for knick-knacks, books or other; the round brass handles are essential and linear. The cabinet has small dimensions, but the symmetry and balance of proportions make it a valuable and versatile object that can be inserted without difficulty in any type of environment, in particular, its reduced depth makes it easily and comfortably placed even in narrower rooms. The piece of furniture was produced in Art Deco style between 1930 and 1935 by an artisan company in Val Badia in Trentino Alto Adige on the border with Austria; Val Badia, Val Gardena, and Val di Fassa have been active artisan centers for woodworking since the Renaissance. The skilled and astute artisans of those areas drew inspiration and decorative techniques from the artistic heritage of neighboring European countries for their original creations; the sober and linear design of the whole created a very elegant piece of furniture full of personality. The furniture has been carefully restored by hand by a skilled furniture maker in Florence (Italy) using the ancient techniques of workmanship, which are the heritage of these ingenious and, unfortunately, last craftsmen. Art Deco refers to a style and model of aesthetic taste that spread throughout Europe and the United States between the 1920s and 1930s. The name Deco comes from the words “Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes” held in Paris in 1925, which initiated this new phenomenon that involved decorative arts, visual arts, architecture, and fashion. Art Deco is characterized by classic forms, essential, symmetrical, and elegant, by clear geometries and plasticity in the figures. The restored cabinet is in good condition. Measures length cm.136, depth cm.34, height cm.116.
