Art Deco dining table in Céruse oak from De Coene, around 1940. This superb table has a checkered pattern and beveled glass tray which rests on a finely carved base in space in spacer or cat bar. From Coene Frères (Courtrai): 1887 is the year when the story of Coene in Courtrai begins. During the interwar period, the company acquired international renown for the production of high quality wooden art deco furniture. Based on Arts and Crafts philosophy, the company will use great artists and architects, notably the painter Albert Saverys. In addition to the individual sale of furniture to the wealthy bourgeoisie, the company is also responsible for tailor -made furniture for restaurants, hotels, casinos, trains, banks and other large institutions. Orders from abroad (France, Netherlands and United Kingdom) flock and the company becomes one of the largest furniture manufacturers in Belgium and its notoriety then becomes international. We will also note a mass production from 1929, up to 1000 radio cabinets per day were produced for Philips Eindhoven.
