Vintage Design
A very rare bentwood folding chair with arm rests model no. 1 by Thonet; in German it is called the “Kaminsessel”, or “Fireplace-chair”. It appeared in the Thonet catalogue for the first time in 1883. This specimen is the first and original model with the half circle arm rests – from 1885 the chair had angled arm rests. The wicker webbing seat and back has been completely redone by hand, by the webbing restorer of the RijksMuseum in Amsterdam; so the webbing upholstery is brandnew. All the hardware has been cleaned and oiled; the folding mechanism works perfectly smooth.
