Antique iron bound merchants chest with hidden compartments. The chest is very heavy, it has a great deal of thick iron banding and brass and iron studs both for strength and decoration. Chests like these were made for merchants to transport their goods and valuables across the world trade routes. The iron work is decorated indicating that this one was made in the East probably India. Inside the chest has 3 hidden, lockable compartments also a drawer at the front. The chest is sound, a good looking piece with a colonial/mediaeval look. Measures: It is 32” high, 50” long and 28” deep.
