Antique Cambodian Coconut Husker

This antique, hardwood frog coconut husker is from Battambang, Cambodia.

Coconut huskers are normally embedded in a hardwood block which would be sat on whilst coconut was being shelled. On rare occasions skilled artisans would carve the blocks into zoomorphic shapes such as the local buffalo or in this case a frog.

Battambang is a small town on the Sangkae River in north western Cambodia and some 3 hours from Siem Reap where Angkor Wat (City of Temples) is located. A beautiful town, rich in culture, local artisans and antiques.
