ARTISTS BIOGRAPHY:

Hugo Hedemann was born on June 9, 1903 at St. Jakobs parish in Copenhagen county. Hedemann was trained as a dairy farmer and later as a dairy engineer. He was over 50 years old when he decided to leave his position as dairy consultant to devote himself to painting, which had occupied him in his spare time since childhood. Hedemann was a private student with Mogens Andersen from 1956 to 1957. He made his debut in 1959 at KE. For many years his pictures were influenced by Mogens Andersen and by an enthusiasm for the French painter Pierre Soulages. The paintings consisted of abstract, dynamic compositions with a dark tone, often with black and white as dominant contrasts and often with pasty color layers, sometimes applied with putty. Slowly, however, the images have changed character towards a brighter expression, with red, blue and yellow color tones in airy and light-filled rooms. In the early 1980s, he actively participated in the work to make the Brandts Klædefabrik exhibition building in Odense a reality.
